I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer whilst 13 weeks pregnant with my second child, which was a huge shock for my husband and I. We were lucky however, to be able to receive the treatment I needed whilst pregnant.
Two weeks after being diagnosed I had a mastectomy and with a two year old daughter at home, recovering from surgery was not very peaceful! But my daughter managed to keep me sane and bring a smile to my face every day!
Whilst undergoing chemotherapy I lost my hair and also my confidence. I went to the Cancer Council ACT Wig Service where the supportive staff helped me find a wig that made me feel normal again.
Since being diagnosed I have spent a lot of time on line researching breast cancer. I found the Cancer Council ACT website to be really useful and informative and put me in touch with great support networks.
We are now anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby boy. After he is born I will be undergoing radiation therapy which will be tiring, however I will stay focussed on getting through this so that I can get back to being the best mum and wife I can be and watch our two beautiful children grow up.
