We are so thrilled and grateful here at Cancer Council ACT to have received such dedicated enthusiasm and generous support from our Relay For Life participants, many of whom continued to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back under very difficult and challenging circumstances, to raise over $180,000 in support of those who are impacted by cancer in our community.
The virtual version of Canberra Relay For Life 2020 - Relay Your Way, was officially opened live via social media by our Patron, Her Excellency, Mrs Linda Hurley, from the grounds of Government House on the morning of Saturday, 28 March. A Ceremony of Hope; a touching montage of images and dedications, was launched on social media that evening to honour those who we have lost and celebrated those who are still fighting back against cancer.
With increased restrictions due to COVID-19, RFL participants ignited their imaginations to be able to come together-apart and continued their fundraising by setting new goals, while stepping out dressed in their favourite superhero costume or their new Relay shirt and maintaining safe social distancing. A special mention and HUGE THANK YOU goes to team Bold Bandannas, who have been participating with Relay For Life since its inception 21 years ago. Exceeding their fundraising goal and raising a record $40,583, it brings their over-all total to over an incredible $400,000. Their commitment and dedication to this event, and to our cancer cause, is amazing and we are so very grateful.
We are very pleased to announce and congratulate this year’s trophy winners:
Highest Fundraising Team -Bold Bandannas $40,583.
Highest Fundraising Individual - Olivia Maher $4,234.
Highest Fundraising School - St Mary Mackillop College $12,590.
This year we added a new category for Most Creative Relay Your Way Activity and congratulate everyone who sent in how they continued with Relay Your Way – it was a close contest!
A special mention goes out to our friends from the multiple squadrons of ADFA who clocked up over 900km (almost from here to the QLD boarder). But the trophy goes to the incredible ladies at Dragon’s Abreast Canberra, inspired by Marion and Elly, who continued with Relay For Life, the virtual way and walked over 40 hours and 200 km between them, around popular landmarks within our beautiful Capital. Congratulations to all our trophy winners!
Congratulations also goes out to those who won in the additional prize draw. All winners have been notified
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported us for this year’s Relay For Life, including a special thank you to MIX106.3, our exclusive radio partners and Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation and Corporate Match 2.0, for their amazing support too.
