Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Cancer Council ACT is proud to join the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program, affirming our commitment to strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Cancer is the second most common cause of death among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who face a 43% higher mortality rate from the disease than other Australians despite similar rates of incidence. We recognize that addressing health challenges in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities requires understanding and respect for the social and cultural factors impacting health, and we are dedicated to developing culturally safe approaches to cancer prevention, treatment and support.

This RAP builds on our commitment to deliver fair and inclusive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by increasing our engagement with these communities and working with the existing structures for health and wellbeing established to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Achieving our goal of a cancer-free future depends on equitable health care for all Australians.

By fostering genuine partnerships, we aim to contribute to a reconciled, unbiased and healthy future for all Australians impacted by cancer in the Canberra region. Together, it's all of us against cancer.
