Canberra turns YELLOW for Daffodil Day 2024

Canberra will once again turn YELLOW on Daffodil Day, Thursday 22 August 2024, as our city comes together to support Cancer Council ACT. Now in its 38th year, this event raises funds for ACT based cancer research and symbolises hope, resilience and unity in our fight against cancer.

We have already seen an overwhelming response from our community as Canberra residents come together to support this iconic and much-loved campaign. Daffodil bunches and merchandise will be available from Cancer Council ACT offices, Deakin and Me, Garema Place, Constitution Place, Cooleman Court and Westfield Belconnen on Thursday 22 August.

Daffodil Day carries a powerful meaning in the Canberra region and is all about raising funds for life-saving cancer research. Some of this amazing research is currently being conducted by both Dr. Teresa Bonello and Dr. Rachel Woodhouse who both received funding grants this year from Cancer Council ACT.

Dr. Teresa Bonello, a Research Fellow at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU, received funding for her project titled “Normalising the tumour microenvironment to improve treatment outcomes for triple negative breast cancer”. Her work aims to differentiate between signalling pathways activated in epithelial-derived tumour cells versus the tumour microenvironment, to better select for therapeutic targets.

Dr. Woodhouse, a postdoctoral fellow at the Cancer Immunology and Epigenetics Laboratory, John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU, received funding for her project titled “Developing novel therapies for EZH2 driven B-cell lymphoma”. She studies how changes in gene expression patterns within cancer cells drive tumour development and progression. Her goal is to develop new therapies for cancers that resist traditional treatments.

For all that cancer takes, give hope this Daffodil Day. Together, we can work to save more lives.
