Meet Grant Jones from Canberra, a loving husband and father of three boys. Grant's life was suddenly turned on its head when, a week after her 36th birthday, his wife Jayde was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer. It was a shocking and heartbreaking diagnosis – one which no family should ever have to face.
It was an incredibly difficult time, but Grant, along with some of his family and friends, were determined to find meaningful ways to support one another and offer strength. Despite their distress, they were driven to try and make a difference, channeling their energy into action and participating in The Longest Day.
The Longest Day is the ultimate golf challenge designed to test skill, strength and stamina. Golfers are challenged to complete 36, 54 or 72 holes of golf in a single day whilst raising vital funds for Cancer Council ACT’s life-saving research.
Grant said, “Jayde being diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer has been an incredibly tough time for our family. Something that I personally have struggled with most is only being able to do so much to help, I think most men would say that if they could swap spots with a loved one facing a fight like this, that they would.
I have been looking for a way to focus my energy and try and make a difference because there is only so much that I can do for Jayde.
So, along with some golfing mates who are joining me, I have decided to take on the Cancer Council’s The Longest Day, 72 holes of golf in a single day (yes, I will be walking it!) at my home club Royal Canberra”.
Grant and his golfing mates will take on the ultimate golfing marathon from dawn to dusk on Monday 16 December, with every donation going to help families like his. All of us at Cancer Council ACT are wishing him and his teammates the best of luck on the green.
