Cancer Council ACT - Relay for Life is back on the track for 2022

Relay for Life is set to resume an in person starting line in 2022 with early bird registrations opening this week. On Sunday 3 April teams will gather at the AIS track and field centre for the all-day event to raise vital funds for cancer support and research in the ACT.

Cancer Council ACT CEO Verity Hawkins says, “After hosting a virtual event for the past two years due to impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, we are excited that Relay for Life is back in 2022. This year’s event will be about bringing us back to community with a focus on survivors, patients and carers across a full day event that includes live music, candlelight ceremony and a special morning tea to start the day.”

Long standing and highest fundraising team the Bold Bandannas, led by Rosemary Drabsch, are keen to get back on the track. Making the most of the discounted early bird registrations that opened this week, they have already started to lodge donations for their Relay.

Rosemary says “We raise funds all year and the fun part is at the end when we participate in the actual walk at the AIS. Taking it in turns to walk around the athletics track with members of all the teams who are participating in Relay. I look forward to seeing as many people as possible participating in April.

“We are motivated by the amount of money we can raise, which is then used for research into finding a cure, education programs and support services for those suffering from the disease. If you haven’t been involved yet, it is worth a try, all very rewarding and a huge benefit for a very worthwhile cause.”

In 2022 Relay For Life will also be extending a special Relay Your Way school model where senior schools can create an on campus event to host Relay for Life in their school.

To be a part of the Relay for Life ACT event, gather a team to enter, volunteer, enter your school or support other relay teams to reach their funding goals and help fight back against cancer! Cancer never rests, so why should we?
