Daffodils bring hope to cancer this August

Details

After a two-year hiatus, Daffodils will return to local shopping centres on 25 August 2022 for Cancer Council’s iconic Daffodil Day.

Canberrans are encouraged to buy a bunch and raise vital funds to support life-saving Australian cancer research from 24 - 27 August 2022 as Cancer Council ACT returns to in-person Daffodil stalls throughout the region for the first time in three years.

Local man, Ivan Naspe, has signed up to volunteer for his first Daffodil Day after his own cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Ivan was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer, on his 56th birthday in May this year and had surgery to remove his kidney in June. Ivan says that an important thing that has come from during this time is the support he has received. “After my diagnosis, Cancer Council ACT was the first place I went to” he said.

Ivan said, “It makes sense for me to give back unconditionally. I’ve signed up to be a volunteer for Daffodil Day as a starting off point for whatever else I can be involved in with Cancer Council ACT. It takes the focus off me, especially when going through all of this.”

Cancer Council ACT Chief Executive Officer, Verity Hawkins stated, "The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for everyone impacted by cancer. I really encourage the community to use this opportunity give and support those impacted by cancer in whatever way they can.”

“Every person who donates, volunteers or buys daffodils this August will help Cancer Council ACT to continue to invest in life-saving cancer research programs, giving hope for better treatments and early detection and ultimately, giving hope for a cancer free future.”

Canberrans are encouraged to support the Daffodil Day Appeal in the following ways:

  • Donate via the Daffodil Day Appeal website and give to cancer research.
  • Fundraise and make a real difference.
  • Grab your fresh daffodils from a local Daffodil Day site near you on Daffodil Day, Thursday 25 August.
