Cancer Council ACT invite Canberra Schools to ‘Relay Your Way’ this April and host their own Relay For Life event on campus. The School Relay For Life program provides a way for our school communities to make a positive impact in the lives of those living with cancer in the ACT.
Cancer Council ACT are calling all schools to register their Relay Your Way event, pick a date for the school community to get involved, and get creative with how they might Relay. With schools from college, high school, primary and even pre-schools being invited to join the cause, Relay Your Way allows participants to pick an activity they can do that works for them.
St Mary Mackillop College have registered their event again in 2022, after being the first Schools Relay For Life last year in 2021.
Michael Lee, Principal of St Mary Mackillop College, St Peters Campus said, “This is an event that the kids at my school are really galvanised and energised by because, very sadly, cancer has touched most of the families and friends and teachers at this school. I’m really proud that the kids are interested in this for their shared identity and belonging and to raise money for a valuable cause.”
“The Cancer Council really is a valuable organisation in terms of supporting people with cancer and finding money for more research into cancer.”
Year 12 student Madison Arnold said, “It’s important to us to get as many people as we can to get around the cause, donate what you can and just raise awareness to support those in the wider community going through cancer at the moment.”
“For our we are planning to include the walk that we do each year and are also looking to have some stalls and donation opportunities up and running as well.”
