Australia's Bigest Morning Tea Fundraiser

We had our first Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 18 years ago. A staff member’s friend was diagnosed with cancer and we thought this was a great way of supporting him, as well as raising much needed funds for cancer research.

We didn’t realise at the time what we were creating. It has become such a wonderful community event where people come together to support each other through difficult times or to remember a loved one that has passed away.

For the past 18 years we have had some incredible and inspiring people come and tell their story of how they have dealt with their own cancer experience.

We have laughed and cried through all of their amazing stories and at the end of the day we are always left with a feeling of how resilient and adaptable human beings are.

My dad was one of those amazing people that fought the big fight and told his story. He is no longer with us, but we have an amazing picture of the day he spoke at the morning tea and remember that day with great fondness and admiration for the battle he fought.

Although the fundraising is important it’s just one part of this beautiful community event.

The children from the Forrest Primary School Band play every year. My daughters who are now in years 9 and 12 love to come and support the event whether it’s singing, baking or simply serving tea.

We supply the morning tea for the school and local businesses like Jane Brown Pearls, King O’Malley’s and various artists all supply goodies for the silent auction. Our suppliers like Canberra Milk and Go Troppo have being supporting us since the inception.

Tim Gavel has been the MC and a keen supporter for 10 years along with Jenny Andrew and Lyn Mills (photographers) have being amazing and are a large part of the success.

Every year we try to dream up a new theme. We have had markets, cake competitions and Mad Hatters tea parties.

Our Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has become a tradition people look forward to every year, a tradition at The Forrest Hotel and Apartments.
