CCACT offers a range of smoking cessation support options designed to help people understand why they smoke, to develop strategies to quit, and to stay quit for good. These sessions can also be tailored to specific population groups, acknowledging the additional barriers that some sub-population groups face when trying to quit smoking.
Quit Smoking Seminar
Cancer Council ACT's Quit Smoking Seminar is a 60 minute (can be up to 90 minute) information session where participants can find out more about:
- why they smoke
- how to quit cold turkey or by cutting down
- coping with possible withdrawal symptoms
- quitting methods and products
The seminar is useful for anyone who wants information on smoking and quitting, especially:
- smokers having difficulties coping with smoking restrictions
- smokers thinking about quitting or cutting down
- smokers wanting to find out how to quit and what to expect
- smokers just wanting to know what’s available to help them quit
Quit courses and seminars can be conducted in workplaces, community or school settings.

Individual Smoking Cessation - Face to Face Support
Individuals wanting to quit smoking who are unable to attend a course or seminar are able to access individual face to face support sessions from a trained Quit Educator. Each session lasts from 45 to 60 minutes and provides intensive support for individuals to identify their smoking behaviours, habits and to develop targeted strategies to deal with potential triggers when quitting. Follow-up sessions can be arranged if required.
Individual sessions can be arranged to occur at Cancer Council ACT's office or at another mutually agreed location. To make an appointment for a session, please contact the Tobacco Action Officer on 02 6257 9999.

Quitline 13 7848 (13 QUIT)
Quitline is a free, confidential telephone advice and information service. For the cost of a local call (except mobile phones), a specially trained advisor can help you to plan and develop strategies to quit smoking and stay quit.
You can speak to an advisor as many times as you wish, or use the Quitline call-back service. The call-back service involves agreeing on a convenient time for the Quitline advisors to call you, so they can provide you with support to quit smoking and stay quit.
With your consent, your GP or other health professional can also refer you to the Quitline and a Quitline advisor will call you at a time that suits you.
QuitCoach is a personalised, confidential and interactive quitting tool available online. The QuitCoach asks you questions and gives you ideas and suggestions based on your lifestyle and where you are at with your smoking or quitting.
It is a useful tool for people wanting some extra support with quitting, without having to make direct contact with a professional or course leader.
