Improve your long game is a sun protection program that was originally developed by Cancer Council NSW for NSW golf clubs. It aims to improve the sun protection behaviours among recreational golfers and specifically targets men over the age of 40. This is because we know that Aussie men love to play golf but men over 40 years of age are also 2.5 times more likely to die from melanoma, compared to women of a similar age. We also know that UV radiation is responsible for the vast majority (95%) of melanomas in Australia - which means that most melanomas can be prevented by adopting simple but effective sun protection measures.
Now in its 6th year in NSW, Cancer Council NSW is confident the program works and is making an impact, which is why Cancer Council ACT will introduce the program across the ACT in 2020 starting with the three listed clubs below:
- Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club - Murray
- RMC Golf Club - Jeremy
- Magpies Belconnen Golf Club - Adam
Cancer Council ACT would like to welcome the following two ACT golf clubs to the program in 2021:
- Fairbairn Golf Club - Mick
- Federal Golf Club - Mark
