Welcome to Cancer Council ACT's VAPE Support Programs
The VAPE Support programs are being delivered by Cancer Council ACT. These programs have been developed as a result of 3 Healthy Canberra Grants provided by the ACT Department of Health. The programs operate in sporting clubs, community service organisations, and schools. The shared goal of the programs is to address vaping and nicotine use within Canberra's young people and other priority populations through a focus on healthy and supportive community settings.
A brief description of each of the VAPE Support programs can be found below and more detailed information on each program can be found by following the relevant links.
Sports
We want to reduce vaping and smoking in the community to help improve health and wellbeing. We believe this is especially important for young people. Together with sporting organisations we can achieve this goal by keeping health at the core of sport and taking an organisation-wide approach to supporting young people who may use vapes, cigarettes, and other nicotine products.
Community Service Organisations
Community service organisation staff in the ACT develop ongoing connections with people in the community who are more likely to be smoking or vaping, and more likely to experience harm from it. People who access these services are supported to develop the strength to overcome challenges related to social inequality and physical and mental health.
This program provides education and training so that trusted relationships in ACT community services can turn into confident conversations to help someone attempt to quit smoking or vaping, and end their dependence on nicotine.
Schools
Our team are taking expressions of interest for the schools VAPE Support program. This program provides;
1. Education to students and school communities on e-cigarettes, vaping, and support options for those who would like to quit; and
2. Training for anyone in the school community to provide safe and effective quit support for young people who are vaping or who are dependent on nicotine.
The program is free to all government and non-government ACT secondary schools.
If your school community would like access to our free vaping support program, please contact us via the E.O.I. below, or register your school or organisation to make a start today.
